Rangers respond with home runs

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Rangers didn’t drop their heads after an ugly, controversial, four-run top of the fourth inning. They picked up their bats.

Michael Young led off the bottom of the fourth by driving a ball a few rows deep into the right-field seats. After an Adrian Beltre single, Nelson Cruz put another ball in the right-field seats.

The two-run shot extended Cruz’s home run streak to four consecutive home games this postseason. It was his seventh homer of the playoffs, which is the third most in a postseason in major league history.

The Rangers almost tacked on another run, but left fielder Matt Holliday threw out Mike Napoli trying to score on a would-be sacrifice fly to end the inning.

Cardinals 5, Rangers 3 after four innings.
