Cardinals strike first vs. wild C.J. Wilson

ARLINGTON, Texas – C.J. Wilson’s wild streak stung him again this postseason.

Back-to-back walks to begin the second inning allowed the Cardinals to strike first in Game 5. Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman both scored after getting free passes from Wilson, who has allowed 16 walks in 23 postseason innings.

Some sloppy fielding didn’t help Wilson’s cause in the inning. Berkman advanced to third when left fielder David Murphy committed an error on Yadier Molina’s RBI single. First baseman Mitch Moreland bobbled a grounder, ruining a chance to throw Berkman out at the plate or prevent him from going home.

However, Murphy more than made up for his error with a diving catch of Nick Punto’s sinking line drive to end the inning.

Cardinals 2, Rangers 0 in the middle of the second.
