Bowden: Darvish bid makes top-10 moves

ESPN.com contributor Jim Bowden, a former GM for the Reds and Nationals, ranked the top-10 moves off the off-season so far. He put the Angels' signing of Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson as No. 1 (no shock there) and the Rangers' bid for Yu Darvish sixth. Here's what he said about Texas:

6. Texas Rangers post bid of $51.7 million for RHP Yu Darvish

After watching division rival Los Angeles spend $331.5 million on Pujols and Wilson, the Rangers responded by posting a major-league record $51.7 million for the rights to a 30-day exclusive negotiating process with Darvish. Darvish arguably is one of the best international pitching prospects. He has the size and stuff to develop into a No. 1 starter. The Rangers should sign Darvish to a five- or six-year deal worth between $70-85 million, which will bring their total expense to approximately $120 million -- the same amount that lured Cliff Lee to the Phillies last December.

BTW, the top 5 ahead of Texas:

1. Angels sign Pujols and Wilson

2. Miami Marlins' winter meetings spending spree

3. Chicago Cubs hire Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer, Jason McLeod

4. San Diego Padres trade for Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal and Brad Boxberger

5. Washington Nationals trade for Gio Gonzalez
