Brad Hawpe, Kelvin De La Cruz scratched

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- First baseman/outfielder Brad Hawpe and left-handed pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz were scratched from today's intrasquad game.

Hawpe has what the club is describing as mild right hamstring soreness. De La Cruz has left forearm tightness and will not pitch. Both players are listed as day-to-day.

Hawpe, 32, is a candidate for a bench spot. The Fort Worth native is here as a non-roster invitee. The left-handed batter hopes to show he can play first and corner outfield and swing the bat. He hit .231 with four homers and 19 RBIs in 62 games (195 at-bats) with San Diego in 2011.

De La Cruz is one of the left-handed bullpen candidates. He was added to the 40-man roster when he was acquired from the Cleveland Indians for cash in the offseason. The 23-year-old did a nice job against lefties in Double-A in 2011, holding them to a .141 average.
