SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Texas Rangers made four moves Thursday to shrink the number of pitchers they have in spring training.
"We're getting to the point of thinning the herd in camp," assistant general manager Thad Levine said.
De La Cruz West gave up a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning this spring. Castillo allowed a hit and struck out two in an inning.
West has been rehabbing a sprained ligament in his elbow. Font had Tommy John surgery on his elbow in October.
Levine said the moves will give the pitchers in camp more appearances on the mound.
"We have a lot of quality but at some point we haven't addressed the quantity in camp," Levine said.
