Buzz: Mitch Moreland looks for rhythm

DETROIT -- Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland feels better. And that's the first step toward trying to find his rhythm at the plate.

Moreland had an abscessed tooth last weekend and flew to Dallas on the off day to get it taken care of. He said as soon as it started draining, he felt better, though he still needs a root canal.

"It was not fun," Moreland said. "But I'm fine now."

He's in the lineup for today's first game against the Tigers, but has played in just seven games to this point.

"I haven't found that rhythm, but I just have to keep working," Moreland said. "I haven't gotten off to the start I wanted. I'm working on getting in the right hitting position."

Moreland is batting .130 (3-for-23) and has had just four at-bats against left-handed pitchers (he's 1-for-4).

Other notes:

* Adrian Beltre will likely be the DH for either the second game of today's doubleheader or Sunday's game. Manager Ron Washington said he wanted to give Beltre a game off his feet.

* Yorvit Torrealba is slated to catch the second game of today's doubleheader with Mike Napoli behind the plate for the first.

* Neftali Feliz, who starts the night game, was told to come to the park whenever he wanted to on Saturday. "There's no reason for him to be here early," Washington said. Feliz will face Justin Verlander at 6:05 p.m. central time today.
