SEATTLE -- Pitcher Neftali Feliz has a right elbow sprain and will not throw for four to six weeks.
He was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Rangers on Monday and will be re-evaluated in four weeks by team physician Dr. Keith Meister. GM Jon Daniels said it could be an additional two weeks from there before Feliz throws, depending on the severity of the injury.
Daniels said Feliz felt soreness in his start against the Los Angeles Angels on May 13. Feliz thought it was normal, but it didn't go away as he expected. The right-hander didn't report it until after Friday's start at Houston. Feliz threw 101 pitches in 4 2/3 innings against the Astros, allowing a run on three hits. He also walked five batters and struck out six in the 4-1 victory.
"We just got to get him well," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "We certainly were looking forward to him taking the ball through the whole year, but I think what happened we can't do nothing about it. Now the key is to get healthy."
