Players react to Roy Oswalt signing

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Even before the Rangers took the field Tuesday, players were checking Twitter on their phones or iPads and had heard Roy Oswalt was coming to Texas. During the game, the Rangers made it official.

"He's a great pitcher," shortstop Elvis Andrus said. "Whenever you have an acquisition like that, it's always great. He's been in the league for a long time and he's a winner. That's the kind of pitcher, the kind of piece you always want to put on a team, especially like this one."

Reliever Mike Adams said it shows the management is willing to do what it can to make the club better.

"Hopefully it works out and he can be the Roy that we all know that he can be," Adams said. "We all know that the management is going to do whatever they can to put the best team out there. They feel we're a better team with Roy Oswalt and that's why they went out there and got him. We'll see how it plays out. Hopefully he can come in here and help the team."

Michael Young, who is 13-for-43 (.302) in his career off Oswalt, is pleased to have the veteran on the staff.

"It makes us much deeper," Young said. "We want to get Nefi (Neftali Feliz) back as soon as possible. We're not exactly sure what the plans are once everybody gets healthy, but once everybody is healthy, we're going to have a very deep pitching staff. Adding a guy like Roy Oswalt is a huge positive for our organization. I have a ton of respect for the guy. I know what a tough at-bat it is facing him. It's a great signing for the team. We're excited that he's here and looking forward to getting him in uniform and out on the mound."
