ESPN Stats & Information's Lee Singer passes along this brief analysis of how right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis beat the Astros on Sunday:
* Lewis used his fastball to get ahead. He threw a season-high 72 percent fastballs on the first pitch and 78 percent of those fastballs went for strikes. This season, only Cliff Lee (75 percent) throws a higher percentage of first-pitch fastballs for strikes than Colby Lewis (72 percent) among qualified starters.
* While Lewis used his fastball to get ahead, he used his slider and even a rare changeup to put hitters away. Nine of the 10 outs Lewis recorded with his slider were with two strikes, including seven via strikeout. Lewis’ seven slider strikeouts were his second most this season. He now has 55 strikeouts with his slider this season; only CC Sabathia with 59 has more.
* Lewis threw two changeups with two strikes and recorded two strikeouts. His two changeup strikeouts matched his total for the entire season entering Sunday.
