Rangers await Mitch Moreland's MRI result

SAN DIEGO – The Texas Rangers were waiting for MRI results on Mitch Moreland’s strained hamstring before Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres, but he will likely go on the disabled list.

Moreland was injured running to first base in Tuesday’s 7-3 victory over the Padres.

Putting Moreland on the disabled list would open a 25-man roster spot for Roy Oswalt, who will start Friday against the Colorado Rockies in Arlington. But the Rangers would still have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Oswalt.

“I think it’s safe to say we’re expecting it to be a DL,” Rangers GM Jon Daniels said. “Not too often a guy comes off the field holding his hamstring and it isn’t at least two weeks. But we’ll make sure it’s 100 percent.”

Moreland will see Dr. Keith Meister on Thursday.

The Rangers can use Michael Young, Mike Napoli and Brandon Snyder at first base. Young replaced Moreland in Tuesday’s game.
