Mark Lowe back, Alberto Gonzalez DFA'd

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Right-handed reliever Mark Lowe has been reinstated from the disabled list and will be available to pitch in Friday's game. To make room for Lowe, infielder Alberto Gonzalez was designated for assignment. The Rangers will go with 13 pitchers for now as they shorten their bench.

Lowe was placed on the disabled list in late June with a strained right intercostal muscle. In five rehab outings with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, he allowed four runs in six innings and the opposition hit .182 against him. He had multiple strikeouts in all five outings and tossed four scoreless innings in his final three appearances.

Lowe has a 2.30 ERA in 26 outings for the Rangers this season with opponents hitting .198. His next appearance will be his first since June 25, when he threw three scoreless innings against the Detroit Tigers in Arlington.

Gonzalez, who was on the 25-man roster out of spring training, hit .241 (13-for-54) with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs in 24 games. Texas has 10 days to trade, release or outright Gonzalez to the minors.
