ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish will not make his scheduled start on Thursday because of a tight right quadriceps muscle. Roy Oswalt, who started last Saturday in Toronto, will be on the mound in his place. Darvish is scheduled to start again on Tuesday.
Darvish, 26, experienced discomfort in his quad while throwing a bullpen session at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Tuesday. He received treatment and the club decided it was best to let the area fully heal before he starts again. The injury is not considered serious. He was doing some light jogging in the outfield before batting practice on Wednesday to test it out.
“I just felt a little tightness in my quad during my bullpen yesterday,” Darvish said in a statement. “I don’t look at it as an injury, just a precaution. It’s just a small problem now. I want to handle it before it becomes a big problem. We talked over with the coaches and this is the best decision for me and the team going forward.”
