Rangers activate Koji Uehara, option Tanner Scheppers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers reliever Koji Uehara is off the disabled list and on the active roster. Tanner Scheppers has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to make room.

Uehara was placed on the DL on June 15 (retroactive to June 10) with a right lat muscle strain. He aggravated the injury while rehabbing in the middle of July, which forced him to miss more time. He is 0-0 with a 2.11 ERA in 20 relief appearances for the Rangers this season.

In three appearances for Triple-A Round Rock as part of a rehab assignment, Uehara pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. His last outing was Friday against Nashville.

Scheppers is 1-0 with one save and a 4.56 ERA in 29 relief appearances for the Rangers in 2012. He’s expected to remain with Round Rock for the rest of their season and then return to the big league club on Sept. 3, a few days after rosters expand.
