Perez (1-2, 3.78 ERA): This is the fifth start of 2012 for the 21-year-old and his second straight since joining the rotation with Scott Feldman going to the bullpen. ... Perez gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits in four innings in a loss to the Mariners on Friday. He had two walks, two wild pitches and three strikeouts in the game. ... It was the shortest of his four career starts. ... He beat Oakland to get his first big league win in his first career start (second appearance) back on June 30, giving up two runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. ... He was the youngest active player in Triple-A at the time of his big league debut in June. ... He was the fifth-younger Ranger ever to win a start for Texas and the youngest since Ed Correa in 1987.

Parker (11-8, 3.40 ERA): He's making his 28th start of the season and has allowed one run in his last start and has given up one run or fewer in 14 of his 28 career starts. ... Parker is 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA in four starts in September and 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA over his last seven starts since Aug. 19. ... He won his 11th game Sept. 15, tying him for fourth-most by a rookie in Oakland history. ... In his only career start against the Rangers, Parker got the victory in a 12-1 A's win, throwing a career-high eight shutout innings and allowing just one hit. ... He no-hit the Rangers for the first seven innings before Michael Young singled to lead off the eighth.

Hitters: Current A's hitters are batting .300 off Perez, led by Chris Carter, who is 2-for-2 with a homer. ... Jonny Gomes and Coco Crisp are a combined 0-for-6 with four strikeouts. ... Young is the only Ranger with a hit off Parker, who no-hit Texas for seven innings in his only start against them (before Young's single to lead off the eighth).
