The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Konrad Schmidt on a waiver claim from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the club announced today. Schmidt has been added to the Rangers’ major league roster, which is now comprised of 34 players.
Schmidt, 28, played in four games for the Diamondbacks in 2012 and spent the rest of the season at Triple-A Reno. He hit .277 with seven homers, 24 doubles and 47 RBIs in 93 games in the Pacific Coast League and threw out 25.5 percent of attempted base stealers.
He’s currently playing with Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League.
"(He has a) gamer-type makeup, plays the game hard," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We’ve had good reports in the past. Let’s see what he can do."
