ESPN.com's Jim Bowden put together some trade ideas for Arizona outfielder Justin Upton. A few of them involve the Texas Rangers, including sending Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar to Arizona for Upton. But the Rangers are hesitant to trade either player. Bowden floats another idea:
If the Rangers really want Upton, they can try to convince Arizona to accept a package of Olt and Perez for Upton. This trade would work well for Texas because Adrian Beltre is signed long-term and with Matt Harrison, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando and Yu Darvish, Perez is expendable. The problem is although Towers is a fan of Olt, he might not be good enough to be the centerpiece of an Upton deal. While it seems like Upton has been around forever, he is only a year older than Olt.
Something tells me that's probably not enough for Upton. But he's a player who certainly makes sense for Texas going forward. The club looks for young players with upside that can be a part of the core for an extended time. He fits that bill. I just don't know if there's a workable deal.
