NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Texas Rangers and catcher Geovany Soto have agreed to terms on a one-year contract for 2013 pending a physical. The source said that physical should take place in the next few days.
Soto, 29, batted .196 with five homers and 25 RBIs in 47 games for the Rangers in 2012 after the club acquired him at the trade deadline in July. Soto hit .199 with six home runs and 14 RBIs in 52 games for the Chicago Cubs before he was dealt.
So the Rangers do have one catcher now for 2013. We'll see if during these Winter Meetings they can pick up another. They'd still like to bring the second half of their catching tandem, Mike Napoli, to Arlington. He's looking for a multi-year deal, but met with the Rangers on Wednesday.
