"4 and 16, really?" Murphy said he texted Davis, referring to his home run and RBI totals so far. "That's a good month for me," Murphy finished the text.
Davis, traded by the Rangers in 2011, has four home runs and 16 RBIs. He's the fourth player to hit a home run in each of his first four games in a season, joining the Rangers' Nelson Cruz, Mark McGwire and Willie Mays. Davis' 16 RBIs are the most through four games since the statistic first became official in 1920.
Murphy would like to have Davis' hot start. Murphy has two hits in 15 at-bats and is batting .133 through four games.
"He's obviously feeling it right now," Murphy said. "More power to him because this is a difficult game so you want to get off to as good of a start as you possibly can."
