Lewis' next step is rehab assignment

Rangers right-hander Colby Lewis is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, provided he has no setbacks after pitching two innings on Saturday in an extended spring training game.

Lewis threw 27 pitches and he reported that everything felt well. He will start Thursday for Triple-A Round Rock in Las Vegas.

Lewis, 33, is making a comeback after undergoing surgery to repair a flexor tendon in his right elbow in July. The Rangers are hopeful he can return to the rotation by the end of May.

Lewis had 26 wins during the Rangers' American League championship seasons of 2010 and '11. He was 6-6 with a 3.43 ERA before getting hurt last season.
