ARLINGTON, Texas -- Birthday boy Josh Lindblom, who turns 26 on Saturday, gets the ball for the Rangers in the third of a four-game series and will be opposed by Blue Jays knuckleballer and former Ranger R.A. Dickey. Texas will try and snap a four-game losing streak. First pitch is at 3:05 CT on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM (1540 AM in Spanish).
Lindblom (0-1, 5.91): The right-hander, who has shuttled a couple of times between Triple-A Round Rock and the Rangers, is scheduled to make his third career start. Lindblom was recalled on Monday to replace the injured Alexi Ogando and limited Cleveland to five hits and three runs while striking out six over six innings. Cleveland's right-handed batters were 1-for-7 against Lindblom and 2-for-15 against right-handed swingers in his two starts. In a spot start for Ogando against Oakland on May 20, Lindblom suffered the loss in a 9-2 defeat. Lindblom is making a conversion from the bullpen. He had made 101 major league relief appearances before his first start. For Round Rock, Lindblom was 6-0 with a Pacific Coast League-leading 2.04 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 10 appearances (nine starts). Lindblom was acquired from the Phillies in the Michael Young trade.
Dickey (5-8, 5.11): The 38-year-old from Nashville, Tenn., has lost three of four starts, but his win two starts back featured 8⅓ innings of shutout, two-hit work against the Giants. Most recently, Dickey surrendered 10 hits and seven runs, all earned, in five innings of a 10-6 loss to the White Sox. He has allowed 14 home runs and 35 walks in 88 innings. In six day games, opponents are hitting only .226 against Dickey, compared to .276 in night games. But nine of the 14 home runs he has allowed have come in day games. His last appearance at Rangers Ballpark was in 2009 as a member of the Twins, when he gave up a home run without getting an out. But in 2008, Dickey was 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two appearances at the Ballpark. He was a member of the Rangers organization from 1996-2006.
Hitters: A.J. Pierzynski has a .444 career average against Dickey with a home run and a double. Lance Berkman is 2-for-5 against Dickey. Mark DeRosa is 2-for-2 off Lindblom and Melky Cabrera has a hit in his only at-bat against the Rangers’ scheduled starter.
