For the second straight season, third baseman Adrian Beltre has won the Texas Rangers Player of the Year award as voted on by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Beltre is the first Ranger to win the award in consecutive years since Michael Young did so in 2004 and 2005.
Beltre hit .315 with 30 homers and 92 RBIs in 161 games for the Rangers in 2013. He led the American League with 199 hits and was fourth in batting average and fifth in total bases (321). He was also in the top-10 in games played, slugging (.509) and homers. Beltre finished tied for seventh in the AL MVP voting this season.
Beltre will receive his award at the 2014 Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Awards Dinner on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased here.
