Injuries: Tepesch (tight back) scratched

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Nick Tepesch will not pitch as scheduled in today's intrasquad game because of a tight back.

Tepesch, one of the candidates for a job in the starting rotation, said his back felt a little bit better Tuesday, but he and the club don't want to take any chances.

"After talking with the trainers, we felt like it was probably better to take a couple of days now," Tepesch said. "We don't want it to get worse a month from now. It's nothing serious. It's just a matter of trying to protect myself against missing more time than I need to."

Tepesch said it tightened up on him a few days ago.

Other injuries:

• RHP Miles Mikolas (sore elbow) has localized soreness. The club will monitor and see what that means, but he's listed as day-to-day.

• RHP Shawn Tolleson has soreness in his shoulder and is also listed as day-to-day.

• SS Elvis Andrus (sore back) is listed as day-to-day. The club is not concerned about it, saying it's just general soreness. He may not play in today's intrasquad game, but he wants to stretch it out and see how he feels.

• RF Alex Rios (sore left toe) said he feels fine and is ready to resume activities. "I've learned how to play through this and manage it," Rios said.

• RHP Tanner Scheppers (back) will throw a live batting practice session on Thursday.

• 2B Kensuke Tanaka (sore lower back) will not play in the intrasquad game and is listed as day-to-day.
