Nelson Cruz gets warm reception from fans

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Nelson Cruz was given a nice ovation and plenty of sustained "Cruz" cheers from Texas Rangers fans as he was introduced in the first inning of Tuesday's game.

Cruz, 33, was making his return to Arlington for the first time since Game 163 of the 2013 season. He missed 50 games last season while serving his suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs. But he was a big part of the club's 2010 and 2011 World Series teams.

Prior to the game, Cruz talked with local media and thanked Rangers fans.

"Thanks for everything," Cruz said. "They always showed love and were always behind me, through bad stuff and rough times and good times. I can’t give more thanks to the fans. They were great."
