Scheppers, who has rehabbed from right elbow inflammation, threw just six pitches in a successful appearance in Double-A Frisco on Tuesday. He was the club's Opening Day starter, going 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA in four starts, but returns in the bullpen.
Scheppers was one of the club's late-inning setup relievers last season and likely settles back into that role, especially with Alexi Ogando on the 15-day disabled list.
To make room for Scheppers, Aaron Poreda was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Scheppers allowed six runs (five earned) in 5 2/3 innings (five appearances) during his rehab assignments in Double-A and Triple-A.
