SAN DIEGO -- The Rangers made their first move of the winter meetings, claiming left-handed reliever Scott Barnes off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.
Barnes, 27, was designated for assignment by Cleveland in late November and was traded to Baltimore for cash considerations Nov. 26. In 2014, Barnes went 3-2 with a 3.69 ERA in 25 games for Triple-A Columbus.
Opponents hit just .193 against him and left-handed hitters compiled a .191 batting average with just two extra-base hits.
Barnes didn't pitch in the big leagues last season, but over a two-year span in 2012-2013, he pitched in 22 games for Cleveland with a 5.20 ERA.
By adding Barnes, the Rangers have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
