The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday that Gil Kim is now Director, International Scouting and Rafic Saab is Director, Latin America scouting. The club has put a particular emphasis on scouting outside of the United States since Jon Daniels became general manager.
Here's some background on Kim and Saab, according to the club's release:
Kim joined the organization after playing baseball at Vanderbilt University. He is in his fifth season with the Rangers, having served in roles at the club’s complex in the Dominican Republic and as a scout in Latin America. He most recently served as Assistant, International Scouting.
Saab joined the Rangers in November 2006 and most recently served as the organization’s Latin America Crosschecker. The Venezuela native played in the Phillies organization and spent time as a scout with that organization before joining Texas. Saab is credited with signing future big leaguers Freddy Galvis and Carlos Carrasco for the Phillies, along with Martin Perez and prospect Luis Sardinas for the Rangers.
