Yu Darvish's interpreter wins Good Guy Award

Joe Furukawa, the Texas Rangers' interpreter for Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish, was selected as the 2012 Harold McKinney Good Guy Award winner in voting done by the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Furukawa, a Pacific Rim international scout for Texas, worked closely with Darvish, helping the media during his news conferences and availabilities after games and between starts.

If you don't know much about Furukawa, check out this story about him that was posted on ESPNDallas.com back in April.

Furukawa will receive the award at the 2013 Texas Rangers Dr Pepper Awards Show on Jan. 11 at the Arlington Convention Center. The event is part of Fan Fest, which is Jan. 11-12. You can purchase tickets to the event by visiting texasrangers.com/fanfest or calling 972-RANGERS.

This is well deserved. Furukawa did a great job this year with Darvish and helping him in all of his media situations. The English-speaking media doesn't get to hear from Darvish if not for Furukawa, and he was always there when Darvish appeared before the media. That is appreciated.
