Dale Jr.: "We're getting there"

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. did not take much solace in finishing second last week at Martinsville even if it seemed to show the work with new crew chief Steve LeTarte is paying off.

"We're getting there, I guess,” Earnhardt said. “We're running pretty good. Been running good every week. We have a couple more steps to go; couple more things to do but we are learning as a team and it is good that it is happening early. We can try to build a good foundation for the rest of the season."

Earnhardt is in a 99-race winless streak, which he hopes to end at the track in which he earned his first Sprint Cup series win in 2000. Earnhardt has led at least a lap in seven of his last nine races at TMS but he has not finished but he has only one top-10 finish.

“The track is really fun,” Earnhardt said. “It is a great crowd. These people, it is a pretty good distance out West and we still draw a good crowd. Draw a lot of interest in our sport. It is a good deal. It gets tougher and tougher the farther west you go to really have the interest there. We do that at Texas pretty good."
