Stars forward Loui Eriksson did not factor in the scoring as Sweden defeated Switzerland 2-0 Sunday to secure a spot in the quarterfinals at the World Championship in Slovakia.
Eriksson played 17:42, had four shots on goal and was even in the game. He has three points (two goals, one assists) and a plus-five rating in five games for the Swedes.
Defenseman Nicklas Grossman, who is out of the tournament with a knee injury, is being sent home by Sweden. Team doctor Peter Strom said it would be a week before Grossman could be ready to play, and the tournament ends next Sunday.
Sweden wraps up qualification round play Monday with a game against Canada.
Sweden’s win over Switzerland also guaranteed a spot in the quarterfinals for Team USA, which was idle on Sunday. Team USA finishes qualification round play against the Swiss.
The quarterfinals begin on Wednesday.
