About the Stars
“We didn’t have it tonight and the injuries didn’t help,” said Stars goalie Andrew Raycroft, who took over for Lehtonen in the first period and stopped 33 of 36 shots. “You go down a goalie and then down to five D in the first five minutes or whatever it was, it’s tough, especially against a team that works hard down low. They kind of took it to us a little bit at times during the night.”
Andrew Raycroft will start in goal for the Stars Monday.
Injuries: C Vernon Fiddler (groin) is probable. G Kari Lehtonen (groin), D Trevor Daley (back), LW Brenden Morrow (upper body), D Alex Goligoski (broken thumb) and RW Adam Burish (broken hand) are out.
About the Avalanche
The Avalanche (10-12-1) won for just the fourth time in the last 15 games, beating Edmonton 5-2 in Denver Saturday. Defenseman Stefan Elliot, called up due to an injury to Erik Johnson, scored a goal in his first NHL game.
“It's nice to be able to knock off both of those at once,” Elliott said. “It's something special to score my first goal, let alone it being my first game.”
Elliot’s goal was the game-winner for the Avalanche, who are 4-10-1 in their last 15 games.
Seymon Varlamov will start in goal for the Avs Monday.
