Those teams behind the Stars in the standings continue to collect points to stay within striking distance.
The Stars have a big back-to-back at Minnesota (tonight) and at Winnipeg (Wednesday). These are big points to keep that distance on teams trying to track them down.
Phoenix rallied from two goals down to Nashville last night, but lost 5-4 in a shootout. The point the Coyotes picked up moved them to within two points of the Stars, who have a game in hand on Phoenix. The Coyotes have a four-game road trip coming up, which includes the swing through Western Canada and then ends in Dallas.
San Jose snapped its five-game winless streak with a 3-2 win at Edmonton last night. The Sharks are within four points of the Stars and have one game in hand. The Sharks, who are one point out of a playoff spot, are in action again tonight, playing at Calgary, which is two points out of that final playoff spot.
Colorado won last night, beating the Ducks 3-2 in overtime to move back into the eighth spot. The Avalanche have played three more games than the Sharks and two more than Calgary and Los Angeles. They have a three-game road trip coming up that will take them to Buffalo, New Jersey and Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers.
Los Angeles, which sits two points out of a playoff spot and five points behind the Stars in the Pacific Division, hosts Detroit tonight.
