Joe Nieuwendyk not selected to Hall of Fame

Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk was not selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame today. I'll have to admit that I'm very surprised. It seemed that most folks around hockey, me included, expected Nieuwendyk to be a lock to get in.

Dino Ciccarelli, Cammi Granato and Angela James were elected as players. Jimmy Devellano and the late Daryl "Doc" Seaman were elected in the Builder Category.

Ciccarelli was a Minnesota North Stars player for nine season in the 1980s, leading the team in scoring five times. He played a total of 19 NHL seasons with five teams and had 608 goals and 592 assists in 1,232 games.

The selection committee representatives on a conference call say they don't comment on players that did not qualify for the Hall of Fame, so I've got no guidance for you on how Nieuwendyk was not selected.
