Some notes from Thursday's practice session in Frisco.
The Stars said that Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington would be dropping the ceremonial first puck at Friday's game against the Coyotes.
Stars equipment manager hits milestone
I meant to get this in last night and didn't, so I put it up now. Stars head equipment manager Steve Sumner hit a milestone last night, working his 1,500th professional game last night. They threw up a shot of Sumner on the bench last night on the scoreboard last night to acknowledge the accomplishment.
"I don’t like to be put on the spot, I got a little red,” said Sumner, who got put on the spot again when he was the center of a little media attention after the game.
His career started in 1989 with Adirondack of the AHL and he's now in his 11th season with the Stars.
“It’s great to be in this organization with Joe Nieuwendyk and this coaching staff. We have a good bunch of players and it’s good to see them playing well. We’ve had our ups and downs since I’ve been here, so hopefully we're going to improve and it’ll be a good year for us.”
Some of his other stops included Fort Wort in the CHL, Dallas of the CHL, St. Louis Blues of the NHL and Houston of the AHL.
