Stars Friday practice update

FRISCO -- It was a later start for the Stars at practice today with the game at 5 p.m. on Saturday and the Stars coming back from a quick road trip to Columbus. A few notes:

* Marty Turco will start in goal against Phoenix on Saturday. "He played good last night," Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "They had a seeing-eye shot that found the net. We didn't. That's about it."

* Mike Modano did not skate in Friday's optional practice. He will try to skate on Saturday morning and see how the left knee feels. He's still listed as day-to-day and Crawford is hopeful he can play. Modano has been a big part of the team's offense lately. He has seven goals in his last 10 games.

* Mike Ribeiro practiced and skated for a while afterward. He's getting very close. He said he felt good, but won't play Saturday. He could go Tuesday in Chicago. Ribeiro wants to get a few games in before the Olympic break. "I want to play before and see how it feels," Ribeiro said. "I want to come back and have my head clear and know everything's OK. I'm anxious to play those games coming up."
