SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Rangers manager Ron Washington isn't concerned -- at least not yet -- about whether second baseman Ian Kinsler will be ready to start the season on time as he rehabs from a high right ankle sprain.
Kinsler said the plan remains for him to return on Monday to games. At least that's what he's shooting for. But he hasn't put any significant pressure on the ankle. He has added hitting back to his workout regimen, taking swings off a tee on Monday. He's lifting weights, throwing and doing some light jogging (fast walking).
"We still have the rest of this week and next week," Washington said. "If he's able to play, he'll figure it out at home plate."
Kinsler said his biggest concern is seeing off-speed pitches so he can get his timing set. The club could help with that by getting Kinsler some extra at-bats in minor league games.
BTW, Kinsler was in the outfield walking backward on the ankle and throwing earlier today. It looked like he was trying to put some more pressure on it to see how it felt.
