Mayweather-Maidana II in movie theaters

The Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Marcos Maidana welterweight championship rematch on Sept. 13 will hit almost 600 movie screens across the county.

While many will be watching the card on Showtime PPV (which, by the way, will begin at 8 p.m. ET rather than the usual 9 p.m. ET in an effort to make sure East Coast viewers aren’t waiting for the main event to begin after midnight), fans can also watch the same broadcast (in HD) in 570 theaters across the country. Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions made the announcement on Tuesday.

You can find a list of participating theaters (as well as ticket prices, which vary theater to theater) at www.FathomEvents.com.

"I love that fans can go to the movie theaters to watch my fights,” Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) said in making the announcement. “Our relationship with Fathom has been a good one thus far, and it's only getting stronger. This is my first rematch in over a decade and I'm happy that we're going to give fans the opportunity to see it live on the big screen."

Said Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs), "I am so happy that this rematch is being shown on movie screens because when I hand Floyd his first loss, it should be larger than life. Our first fight was exciting, but this one is going to be even better and I hope fans are ready."

Mayweather-Maidana II, which will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the same venue where Mayweather’s last nine fights have been, is a rematch of Mayweather’s action-packed majority decision win over Maidana on May 3.

"The May matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Marcus Maidana had all of us on the edge of our cinema seats as it was an ‘anything can happen’ thrilling fight," Fathom Events senior vice president Dan Diamond said. "Fathom Events is thrilled to bring this winner-take-all rematch to cinemas across the nation as boxing fans are sure to witness an epic battle they won't soon forget."

Mayweather’s past several fights have been available in movie theaters in conjunction with Fathom Events.
