Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn is playing coy with the announcement of the next opponent for super middleweight titlist Carl Froch.
What Hearn has announced is that Froch will make his first title defense on Nov. 17 at the Capital FM Arena in his hometown of Nottingham, England. That's the same arena where Froch stopped Montreal's Lucian Bute in the fifth round of an electrifying performance to claim a 168-pound belt for the third time on May 26.
Just exactly whom Froch will face on Nov. 17 hasn't been revealed yet. Hearn announced last week that the opponent would be introduced Monday on Sky Sports, the network that televises Froch's bout in the U.K. But instead of making the announcement, Hearn issued a news release Monday that made no mention of the opponent. Instead, he said the announcement of Froch's next foe would come Aug. 28, with tickets scheduled to go on sale the same day.
Gotta love it: We've had an announcement to make an announcement followed by another announcement of another date for the announcement.
Assuming Froch (29-2, 21 KOs) beats his Nov. 17 mystery man and Bute (30-1, 24 KOs) wins an already-scheduled bout against Denis Grachev on Nov. 3 in Montreal, Froch and Bute are due to meet in a rematch in March in Montreal.
