You can bet if there's a big pay-per-view show on a Saturday night that there will be a smaller card piggybacking off of it, and that is no different in the case of the July 12 Showtime PPV card topped by the 155-pound showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

A few days earlier during fight week, on July 9, Golden Boy is also putting on a Fox Sports 1-televised card at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas, it announced this week.

The main event will feature the return of junior middleweight Alfonso Gomez (23-6-2, 12 KOs) from a two-year layoff, which was caused in part by injuries.

Gomez will take on Ed Paredes (35-3-1, 23 KOs), who is unbeaten (14-0-1) since a 2009 decision loss to Carlos Molina (who later won a junior middleweight world title), in a scheduled 10-round bout.

Gomez rose to fame on "The Contender" reality series and retired the late Hall of Famer Arturo Gatti with a brutal seventh-round knockout in 2007. Gomez will try to make a go of it following the long layoff and back-to-back losses, a sixth-round knockout to Alvarez in a junior middleweight title fight in September 2011 followed by a 10-round decision loss in a welterweight fight against Shawn Porter, who later won a world title.

The undercard will feature 2012 U.S. Olympian Joseph Diaz Jr. (10-0, 7 KOs) in an eight-round junior featherweight bout against an opponent to be determined and Mexico's Diego De La Hoya (5-0, 4 KOs), the cousin of new Hall of Famer and Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya, in a six-round junior featherweight contest against an opponent to be determined.
