A few notes from around the boxing world:
Former light heavyweight world champion Chad Dawson (33-4, 18 KOs) -- whose career has been in a tailspin since his decision win against Bernard Hopkins in their 2012 rematch -- will face Cornelius White (23-4, 17 KOs) in a 10-round bout Saturday night on the undercard of featherweight titlist Gary Russell Jr.’s first defense against Patrick Hyland at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Dawson’s bout is not part of the Showtime telecast (11 p.m. ET). Since beating Hopkins, Dawson is 2-3, including knockout losses to Andre Ward and Adonis Stevenson. He is coming off a 10-round decision against Shujaa El Amin (who was 12-8 going into the fight) in December.
Light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs), 31, the former Russian Olympian based in Montreal, has not fought since last June because of shoulder surgery that forced a world title elimination bout in November to be canceled. But he will return on June 4 on the first Premier Boxing Champions card on ESPN this year, promoter Yvon Michel told ESPN.com. Michel did not disclose the venue or opponent.
Riverside, California, lightweight prospect Saul Rodriguez (19-0-1, 14 KOs), 22, will face Daulis Prescott (31-3, 23 KOs), 29, of Colombia, in the scheduled 10-round main event of “Solo Boxeo Tecate” (UniMas) at the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City, California, Top Rank said. Rodriguez, who is trained by Robert Garcia, is coming off his most notable victory, a first-round knockout of Ivan Najera in November. Prescott, the brother of more well-known pro Breidis Prescott, had a world title shot in 2012 but lost to Nicholas Walters by seventh-round knockout in a fight for a vacant featherweight belt.
