Notes: Boxcino champ Petrov set to return

A few notes from around the boxing world:

• Lightweight Petr Petrov, who won the 2014 ESPN Boxcino tournament last May, will fight for the first time since when he headlines ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights" on April 3 (9 p.m. ET) at the Omega Products Outdoor Arena in Corona, California. Petrov will face former junior lightweight titlist Gamaliel Diaz (38-11-3, 17 KOs), 34, of Mexico, in a scheduled 10-round bout. Petrov (35-4-2, 17 KOs), 31, born in Russia and living in Spain, was supposed to face Hank Lundy on FNF on Jan. 16, but the fight was canceled the day before after Lundy missed weight by four pounds. In the co-feature, 2012 Ukrainian Olympic bronze medalist Taras Shelestyuk (11-0, 8 KOs), 29, will face Juan Rodriguez Jr. (12-1, 5 KOs), 28, of Union City, New Jersey, in an eight-rounder.

• Originally, former junior lightweight titlist Rances Barthelemy (21-0, 12 KOs), who recently gave up his 130-pound crown to move up in weight, was not on the March 26 ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights" card (a special Thursday edition) in Hialeah, Florida. Then he was a late addition and put into the main event. The next day he was removed from the show when the network and promoter could not agree on an acceptable opponent. And now Barthelemy, 29, a Cuban defector, is back on the card and will be in the televised opener, a scheduled 10-round junior welterweight bout against Angino Perez (18-6, 16 KOs), 31, of the Dominican Republic. The March 26 card is headlined a welterweight fight between Breidis Prescott (27-6, 20 KOs) and Fredrick Lawson (23-0, 20 KOs).

• Former lightweight title challenger Mercito Gesta (28-1-1, 16 KOs) and Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KOs) will meet in the scheduled 10-round junior welterweight main event of "Golden Boy Live" on April 30 (Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes) at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, Golden Boy announced. The fight will be Gesta's first since signing a promotional deal with Golden Boy.

"Carlos has fought well-known fighters Adrien Broner and Amir Khan and I will be ready to challenge him," Gesta said. "I know that he is a true warrior with a lot of heart and I plan to meet him as an equal on fight night."
