Injured Samir off Friday's card

When super middleweight Bastie Samir turned pro after representing Ghana in the 2008 Olympics he looked like a serious prospect. But then came some layoffs, immigration issues and a 2011 draw against a low-level opponent.

Samir’s stock dropped after the draw and then he was out of the ring for almost two years before returning in Ghana, where he won four fights in 2013.

After coming to a co-promotional agreement with Lou DiBella and Jean Pascal, Samir was due to fight again in the United States and be featured against Derrick Webster in an eight-round bout on Friday night’s “ShoBox: The New Generation” card (10 ET/PT) tripleheader at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

However, Samir (14-0-1, 14 KOs), 27, suffered a shoulder injury on Friday and is now off the card.

Now the telecast will feature two bouts, the scheduled 10-round main event between junior lightweight prospect Joel Diaz Jr. (15-0, 12 KOs) and Tyler Asselstine (14-1, 7 KOs) and junior middleweight prospects Frank Galarza (13-0-2, 9 KOs) and Sebastien Bouchard (9-0, 2 KOs) meeting in the eight-round co-feature.
