Offseason blueprint: Broncos

When John Elway looks at the Denver Broncos' things to do list in this offseason, he says he believes he has to strike a balance in the team’s approach.

The no-panic balance, that is, between what he called “a tremendous season’’ fueled by a record-setting offense and the spirit-crushing loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.

To that end the Broncos will be on the hunt for defensive help, especially in a secondary that features six players who are either unrestricted or restricted free agents as well as on the edge in the pass rush where Von Miller is returning from ACL surgery and Shaun Phillips is a free agent.

And in the end they want to be able to play with a little more power on offense -- “that’s an area we want to improve on,’’ as head coach John Fox put it -- to go with more speed and athleticism on defense and special teams.

“Do I think this team is tough enough to win a world championship?’’ Elway said. “I do. There is no question in my mind ... Now we just go about the business of strengthening our roster to put ourselves in that position once again.’’
