Morning Roar: Lions have open roster spot

The Lions, lying in wait for the new year...

The Detroit Lions are entering June with a roster spot open.

The spot exists because the Lions released defensive end Kourtnei Brown on Friday, giving the team room to make a move if they chose to do so. Of course, they would need the cap room to make a move -- part of the reason Detroit has yet to sign either first round pick Eric Ebron or second-rounder Kyle Van Noy.

As it exists now, Detroit's roster breaks down like this: Four quarterbacks, six running backs, two fullbacks (Montell Owens is listed by the team as a running back, not fullback), 11 wide receivers, five tight ends, seven offensive tackles, six guards, two centers, six defensive ends, nine defensive tackles, 10 linebackers, 10 cornerbacks, seven safeties, two kickers, a punter and a long snapper.
