Where James Shields' value lies after trade to White Sox

Despite James Shields' throwing one of the worst outings of his career a few days prior, the San Diego Padres were able to trade him to the Chicago White Sox. What does it mean for Shields in fantasy? AP Photo/Ted S. Warren

His latest brutal mound appearance notwithstanding, new Chicago White Sox right-hander James Shields can be a valuable pitcher for fantasy owners. Those in mixed leagues should remain interested in him after the Saturday trade, while those in AL-only formats should consider adding him, but only within reason. Yes, Shields was torched for 10 earned runs in short work by the Seattle Mariners earlier this week, and from a general sense, it’s more fun for pitchers in the NL than the AL, but Shields doesn’t fit the popular mold.
