Breaking down Packers' defensive snaps

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Here's a look at the snap counts from the Green Bay Packers' 21-7 preseason win against the St. Louis Rams on Saturday:

Total defense snaps (71)

Defensive line

Josh Boyd: 26

Datone Jones: 24

Khyri Thornton: 22

Luther Robinson: 22

Carlos Gray: 20

Mike Daniels: 19

Mike Pennel: 19

B.J. Raji: 15

Notes: The starting front of Daniels, Raji and Jones helped hold Rams starting running back Zac Stacy to just 1.0 yards per carry on six attempts. Stacy's first three carries went for 1 yard, minus-2 and minus-1. Although all three tackles were made by linebackers, the front's penetration allowed the linebackers to fill. Pennel, an undrafted rookie, backed up his strong showing in the preseason opener against the Titans with another good performance. He spun away from a double team for a sack.

Jake Doughty: 29

Korey Jones: 28

Mike Neal: 23

Julius Peppers: 22

Clay Matthews: 22

Brad Jones: 22

Sam Barrington: 19

Nick Perry: 19

A.J. Hawk: 18

Nate Palmer: 16

Andy Mulumba: 15

Jamari Lattimore: 14

Adrian Hubbard: 11

Carl Bradford: 11

Jayrone Elliott: 8

Notes: After an uneventful debut the previous week, Peppers made an impact in his second outing with the Packers. He dumped Stacy for a 2-yard loss on the opening series and also had one quarterback hit. Brad Jones was credited with a team-high four tackles. In the dime package, Neal moved from outside linebacker to defensive tackle, where he was paired with Datone Jones as the inside rushers. The Packers will want to see more from Elliott, who had three sacks (including a forced fumble) in a four-play stretch in the fourth quarter. Can he do it against someone other than Rams backup tackle Sean Hooey, who gave up five sacks in all?

Jumal Rolle: 36

Sam Shields: 22

Tramon Williams: 22

Demetri Goodson: 22

Davon House: 19

Ryan White: 19

Casey Hayward: 19

Antonio Dennard: 18

Jarrett Bush: 14

Notes: On the first play of the Rams' second series, receiver Brian Quick beat Shields on a post for 41 yards. Three plays later, Shields was flagged for a 15-yard pass interference penalty while covering Quick. Hayward has been playing in the nickel package only but as near flawlessly as he has played, there might be more playing time in his future.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: 34

Sean Richardson: 23

Chris Banjo: 22

Micah Hyde: 20

Charles Clay: 18

Tanner Miller: 17

Morgan Burnett: 12

Notes: If Clinton-Dix is going to move into the starting lineup, it could be this week in practice after he got a long look against the Rams. The first-round pick recorded one sack and three tackles without missing one. Hyde gave up the Rams' only touchdown, an 11-yard pass to tight end Lance Kendricks. Banjo had an interception taken away by an illegal hands to the face penalty on Gray. Banjo and Goodson also played a team-high nine snaps on special teams.
