But the Packers still could not be certain that Burnett will make his 2013 debut Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Burnett, who first sustained the injury Aug. 23, was limited in practice Friday and was officially designated as questionable.
“Morgan’s further ahead than he was last week, I think for obvious reasons,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after Friday’s practice. “He has practiced more than the medical report [indicated he would] in the morning. You feel good about that. How he comes in here tomorrow and what goes on in the next 48 hours will be the key if he plays.”
Last week, Burnett experienced a setback late in the week after practicing on Wednesday and Thursday and did not play in the season-opening loss at San Francisco. His absence was noticeable when the Packers allowed 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to throw for 412 yards.
“He’s like your quarterback back there,” McCarthy said of Burnett. “He’s got the most experience. I thought he’s had an excellent training camp. He’s really taken the leadership role to another level compared to past years. He’s a very good football player. He makes a difference when he’s in there.”
McCarthy said starting left guard Josh Sitton's lower back injury has made significant improvement, although Sitton was limited in Friday's practice and was listed as questionable. So was cornerback/special-teams ace Jarrett Bush, who did not practice Friday because of a hamstring injury he sustained in Thursday's practice.
Tight end Jermichael Finley (toe) was listed as probable.
“It hurts slightly,” said Finley, who caught five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown after he injured his toe against the 49ers. “But other than that, I’m ready to go.”
