Detroit-Mercy lands prospect from Canada

Alex Mendonca, a Class of 2012 defender from Windosr, Canada, has verbally committed to Detroit-Mercy, ESPNHS has learned.

Mendonca plays club soccer for Crew Soccer Academy Wolves, formerly the Derby County Wolves, in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.

He started 21 of his 22 appearances last year as a member of the Wolves' under-15/16 team.

Mendonca attends Belle River District (Belle River, Canada).

Menonca is the sixth confirmed commitment for Detroit-Mercy's Class of 2012, and second international pick-up. Incoming transfer student Daid Edwardson is from England. Detroit-Mercy's recruiting class also includes Matthew Harkema of Michigan, Dominique Hunter of Indiana, Vicente Jaramillo of Michigan and John Wrona of North Dakota.
