Ohio State lands leading Academy scorer

Danny Jensen, a Class of 2013 prospect who is among the leading goal scorers in the Development Academy Under-17/18 age group, verbally committed Sunday to Ohio State, his family confirmed.

Jensen has scored 16 goals in 19 matches for Weston FC this season, putting him among the individual leaders in the 78-team Development Academy.

Jensen starred for Cypress Bay (Weston, Fla.), which won a second straight state title this past winter season and finished as the POWERADE FAB 50 No. 1 winter team. Jensen scored two of the team's four goals in the state final. He projects as a midfielder/forward on the college level.

He is the first confirmed verbal commitment to Ohio State for the Class of 2013.

Why Ohio State?: "Ohio State's team and coaching staff really made a difference. I felt it was the right choice because of that and the fact that it has always been a dream of mine to play as a Buckeye. Big 10 is where I wanna be, and where I have ended up."

What surprised you the most about the recruiting process?: "I learned that I really had to do most of the first contact with coaches and make an effort. I couldn't just sit there and hope someone found me. I had to go after what I wanted and it payed off."
