PVYSC defender chooses Wis.-Green Bay

Chris Whalen, a Class of 2012 defender from Appleton, Wis., verbally committed to Wisconsin-Green Bay, he confirmed to ESPNHS on Monday.

Whalen plays club soccer for PVYSC New United.

The senior plays more of an attacking position for his high school team, Appleton North (Appleton, Wis.), and he scored twice in the team's most recent outing -- a 4-0 playoff win over Beaver Dam (Beaver Dam, Wis.).

Whalen is the fourth confirmed Class of 2012 verbal commitment to UW-Green Bay, but the first who hails from the U.S. The program secured a trio of commitments from Canadian players: Nicholas Axhorn, Jordan Dover and Tremaine Nelson.

Why UW-Green Bay?: "I chose UW-GB because I like the campus, the coaching staff, and the soccer program overall. I have very high hopes for the team next year."
