Jobie Hughes is leaving high school soccer on a high note.
The 75-year-old coach who has guided St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) the past 28 years is retiring, just months after coaching the Raiders to a state title.
The Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported Hughes' retirement Tuesday evening.
Hughes retires with a career record of 566-96-90, and turns the program over to Aquinas grad and 20-year assistant John Walsh.
Hughes' retirement is the second major coaching change at the school in the past year. Athletic director and longtime football coach George Smith retired following the 2010 seasson where the Raiders were named the POWERADE FAB 50 national champion.
